The synergy between VR, VFX and live action TV continues to mesh as Walt Disney reveal that Epic Games are working on ‘real-time rendering to live-action production’ using real time rendering via the Unreal engine, most likely on The Mandalorian. It appears that this will be for on-set rendering, giving episodic directors an even quicker look at early versions of the VFX that will ultimately be seen on screen.

Epic Games, developers of Unreal Engine and Fortnight, is collaborating with Lucasfilm to bring the power of Epic’s Unreal Engine real-time rendering to live-action production for the first time ever on a series for Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer streaming service launching late next year.

The Disney Accelerator Demo Day will be livestreamed worldwide on ABCNews.com and ABC News mobile and OTT apps for Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV on October 10 at 2:30 p.m. PT.

Another huge leap forward in fast, cost-effective production for television, this should help ensure that small screen Star Wars is every bit as impressive as its big screen counterparts.
