As we hurtle towards the theatrical release of The Mandalorian and Grogu, let’s take a look back at the top ten moments from their small screen adventures since they first appeared in 2019.

Grogu’s Reveal

Now, for most of the world this was spoilt on social media because we didn’t get Disney Plus until March 2020. However, kudos still needs to go to everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, on the team who kept this under wraps. Throughout the episode we were told that the asset was of high importance and was around 50 years old. Who could it have been? When The Child, as he was known for such as long time, was finally revealed to us it was glorious moment in the history of the franchise as he quite literally captured the hearts of Star Wars fans, and pretty much everyone, around the world.

Krayt Dragon vs. The Tuskens

When The Mandalorian returned to our screens in October 2020, it was the first, and only, episode to be directed by creator Jon Favereu. It was truly a cinematic episode with wonderful production design, great storytelling, mystery, humour, and a fantastic set piece towards the end involving the team up of Din Djarin and Cobb Vanth. Vanth, who is wearing Boba Fett’s armour, helps a group of Tusken Raiders take on the mighty Krayt Dragon. The whole sequence is impeccably done and displayed some fantastic work by ILM. I remember at the time thinking it would have been brilliant to see this on the big screen, if only I’d have known about 22nd May 2026.

Ahsoka Revels Baby Yoda’s Name

In the season 2 episode titled ‘The Jedi’ we were treated to the live-action debut of Ahsoka Tano. It was episode steeped in samurai lore. The colour pallet used in the episode was so both dark and mystic whilst the fight choreography towards the end was pulled straight out of Kurosawa. The episode had been teased that we were building to Ahsoka, thanks to Bo Katan telling Din to find her, but what we got was something more. The reveal of Grogu’s name was extremely well played. Up to now, he was officially known as The Child and unofficially known as Baby Yoda. Instead of making a big deal about it, the storytellers decided to just come out with it as a matter of fact. When Ahsoka tells Din that The Child’s name is Grogu, it immediately felt natural. In turn, it also set up another mystery that would be paid off in Season 3 and that was the backstory that Grogu was rescued at the Jedi Temple during Order 66.

Grogu Saves Din from the Mudhorn

In episode 2 of season 1, the Mandalorian finds himself in spot of bother whilst facing a Mudhorn. When all seems lost for Din Djarin and the beast is rampaging towards its killer attack, Grogu saves Din by using his Force powers in front of him for the first time. The scene is expertly played on all counts. At this point in the story, The Child is as much a mystery to us as he is to Din. Sure, he may have been the same species as Yoda but we didn’t know anything about him. The reveal here that he is Force sensitive and seems to know how to use his abilities was a powerhouse moment. It was also a massive turning point for Din as he first discovers that there is something deeply special about The Child.

Boba Fett’s Raging Rampage

The whole episode, directed by Robert Rodriguez, was utterly spellbinding. While Grogu is perched atop the Seeing Stone and trying to make contact with a Jedi, its left to Din and a new team up of Fennec Shand and Boba Fett to keep an onslaught of Stormtroopers at bay. Boba stole the show here. No doubt. He’s brutal beyond belief. A fierce and hardened warrior who shows no mercy and rages at the Stormtroopers. The physicality of the character is excellent; Temuera Morrison delivers a knockout performance. When Boba finally wears his armour, fans rejoiced in unison as the legendary bounty hunter lived up to his infamous name. The action is staged beautifully, and we feel the power of Fett with each crushing blow after each crushing blow.

Join us next week for the concluding top five moments as we build towards 22nd May and The Mandalorian and Grogu.
