Speaking on Saturday at Deadline’s The Contenders Los Angeles, The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson – on the promotional trail for his thriller Knives Out – gave a brief update on his current Star Wars status, and on Knives Out which won the Audience Award at the 28th Philadelphia Film Festival.

“That’s one of the things [Knives Out] engages with, the current state of online culture. Whether you made a Star Wars movie or you have a cooking show, whatever you’re doing on there, someone’s going to be screaming at you about it probably. Let’s put it on a screen in a way we can all maybe have a laugh about it.”

And regarding Star Wars.

“We’re still engaged with Lucasfilm and we’ll wait and see. No updates on it at this moment, but yeah.”

Not the most enthusiastic of quotes but like the best poker player, Johnson is keeping his cards close to his chest.
