Paul Welsh, writing over at the Hendon and Finchley, Barnet and Potters Bar, Edgware and Mill Hill Times, discusses the opening of the new exhibition at the Borehamwood Museum celebrating the 20th anniversary of BBC drama Holby City. Looking at the history of the studio, he has a very direct question for George Lucas, who made a number of blockbusters there in the 70’s and 80’s.
I really wish I could meet George Lucas again and persuade him to fund a film and television heritage centre in Borehamwood. He made his name and fortune here in the 1970s and 1980s with the Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies and Steven Spielberg at one time called Elstree Studios ‘Lucas land’.
Come on George, you are a billionaire and the clock is ticking for both of us. If we set up a charitable trust to run it and — let us be honest — if you gave us a few million you would not even notice it and it would probably be tax deductible. It is a pity we live 6,000 miles apart or I would be camping out on your doorstep. Thinking back to the campaign to save Elstree Studios, words are fine for publicity but actions count. I guess that is me consigned to the dark side but that is showbiz.
