Adam Savage continues his series of interviews with Lucasfilm legends recorded at the late, great 32TEN Studios, this time sitting down with the one and only Lorne Peterson to discuss his incredible career at ILM working on everything from Star Wars, E.T, Indiana Jones and more.

Adam Savage interviews Academy Award-winning special effects artist Lorne Peterson, whose work includes Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Last Ark, Star Wars and E.T. An industry veteran, Lorne gives Adam his thoughts on the current state of filmmaking and shares what it was like being a pioneer of modern-day cinema, thinking out of the box and mastering the art of creative problem solving. What an honor!

NOTE: This video was filmed before 32TEN Studios was closed permanently, and its contents auctioned off. More interviews conducted by Adam in this iconic building are forthcoming

Back in 2019 at Celebration Chicago we had the good fortune to chat with Lorne, an interview you can watch above or listen to here on Making Tracks, and if you want to go back even further back into the archives you can read my 2008 Lightsabre interview with Lorne by clicking here, where we discussed the legend of fans dumpster diving for Star Wars treasures.

Lightsabre – Some of these guys must live next to the dumpster.

LP – There have been. I mean it’s gone past the dumpster phase now but during the late ’70’s and ’80’s for sure. I pulled up one night and out popped a couple of teenagers from behind the dumpster. Somebody got the very original Death Star that way.

Lightsabre – Out of the dumpster?

LP – Yeah. Well, it was just used for that one shot, it was an incredibly well detailed, and it got a little bit scratched and damaged while cleaning things up and there wasn’t this thought of preserving everything. And so it got thrown in the dumpster and somebody happened to get it and eventually it wound up in Seattle in somebody’s collection.

Hmmm, I wonder who’s collection that could be in?
