Speaking at the recent Fan Media Days event, LEGO designers  Jens Kronvold Frederiksen and Michael Lee Stockwell discussed the new sets, including the 75280 501st Legion Clone Troopers set.

Brickset: How did the creation of 75280 501st Legion Clone Troopers come about?

Jens: As you know, there was enormous demand for this set online! We are always listening to requests from fans and swiftly saw that this particular campaign was becoming absolutely crazy so responding to it was inevitable. It is not necessarily the sort of set we would typically design but the demand was very clear.

Brickset: Do you have any concerns that this successful campaign may inspire more disruptive campaigns for LEGO to produce certain sets in the future?

Jens: Not really. We want to hear from the fans directly whenever possible and we are always doing our best to satisfy LEGO Star Wars collectors, as well as new fans.

Michael: Additionally, this example is something of a special case because the 501st Legion costuming organisation was originated by Star Wars fans so listening intently to the fans with regard to 75280 501st Legion Clone Troopers felt completely natural.
