Mark Hamill on a return as Luke Skywalker: “I left my robes behind”

As Star Wars forges on – beyond Andor season 2, through 2025 and Visions season 3 to Ahsoka season 2, The Mandalorian & Grogu, Maul: Shadow Lord and on to the 50th anniversary and a potential return to the characters of the sequel trilogy – it seems that Mark Hamill won’t be a part of future adventures. Speaking with ComicBook to promote his new movie The Life of Chuck, Hamill made it very clear that his days as the son of the chosen one are now behind him.

“I am so grateful to George for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars ‘the most expensive low-budget movie ever made. We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.”

“And by the way, when I disappeared in [The Last Jedi], I left my robes behind. And there’s no way I’m gonna appear as a naked Force ghost.”

It’s worth noting that Mark has played plenty of other characters in the GFFA, utilising his vast vocal talents to voice other characters, so his time in the Wars might not be fully over but it does seem like a return as a naked Force ghost is unlikely.
