Gus Lopez is a busy, busy man who’s love for the GFFA has taken him around the world numerous times to visit locations, while back at home his efforts to curate a wide variety of artifacts from the saga has seen him oversee the Collecting Track at every Star Wars Celebration (with Japan to follow soon) and amass a collection of cast and crew items (not to mention screen-used items and a very tasty food packaging collection) that is without equal. Part of the hugely exciting Saga Museum project, Gus joined Jamie Benning on episode 119 of the Filmumentaries Podcast to discuss all this and much more besides.

In this conversation, Gus Lopez shares his journey as a Star Wars collector, discussing the profound impact of Star Wars on film and culture, the evolution of collecting through the internet, and the importance of storytelling in the collecting community. He also delves into the ambitious plans for the Saga Museum, a collaborative effort among prominent collectors to create a public space for showcasing their collections and sharing their stories with fans. In this conversation, Gus Lopez discusses the ambitious plans for a physical Star Wars museum, focusing on fundraising, educational components, community engagement, and the importance of support from Lucasfilm. He shares insights into the collecting journey, the responsibility of preserving cultural artifacts, and the vision for a location that attracts both fans and tourists. The conversation concludes with ways fans can get involved in the project.

Gus will be appearing at next months running of Hoth Strikes Back, where he shall be presenting his ‘Collecting Artifacts From Hoth (But really from Finse, Elstree and San Rafael) panel. Fantha Tracks are once again at the event, so stay tuned for our coverage of Hoth Strikes Back 2025.
