In the years since the Disney purchase of Lucasfilm and the beginning of the current canon, certain characters have filtered their way into the ‘official’ timeline. Here, EW ask whether or not Admiral Thrawn (who of course is already well embedded in canon thanks to the new Thrawn trilogy of books and Star Wars Rebels) and Mara Jade, arguably the most popular of all the currently non-canon characters and a 90’s fan favourite who regularly topped fan polls back in the day.
Showrunner Jon Favreau didn’t dodge the question.
“I don’t want to talk about anything that might be fun for people to discover. We do have conversations. Part of what’s fun to see if we could merge the worlds of the original trilogy, the prequels, the sequels, The Clone Wars, and what’s been considered canon up to this point and what’s been considered part of Legends. I think this show offers an opportunity to bring in all those elements so no matter what your flavor of Star Wars ice cream you like there will be something to enjoy. But you’re asking the right questions.”
You could argue that this statement is the most enticing of them all, with Favreau and Filoni keen to blend elements from every corner of the canon, Legends – even the weapon the Mandalorian uses is from The Holiday Special. It would seem that deliciously, nothing is off the table.
