Hello, friends. As I’m writing this, it is currently the 4th of May, officially known as Star Wars Day. It’s a day where we celebrate all things Star Wars.

So what did I do on this fine day? Well, I watched Return of the Jedi and Revenge of the Sith. I may watch the first episode of Bad Batch this week. Maybe an episode or 2 of Ewoks or rewatching The Mandalorian. I even watched Solo on TV a few nights ago, which got me thinking about those excellent “Sabacc” posters they came out with, especially the Lando and Han ones.

Later on today, I plan to pick up the new deluxe magazine about the Skywalker Saga (author’s note: I did pick it up!) and a week after that, a new Mandalorian guide. I just finished Kristen Baver’s excellent Skywalker: A Family at War. And that’s right after I got acquainted with Space Matthew McConaughey and a big rock in Claudia Gray’s Into the Dark. It’s part of the High Republic series that I’m really getting into. I also want to read the new Doctor Aphra novelization of the audio book (even though I haven’t quite finished with the audio portion part quite yet). I have another Star Wars book on deck, the third Alphabet Squadron. And I’ve heard good things about it.

Speaking of the High Republic, what’s going on with Master Sskeer? And how cool is it to have “Saber for Hire” Ty Yorrick? I want to see what happens next to Doctor Aphra, my favorite new Star Wars character. I’m reading more and more about the upcoming War of the Bounty Hunters and getting super excited about it. Now, I’m a Trade Waiter (I usually just read the TPB’s, not the individual issues) but it should still be a great read.

On this May the 4th, I’m also looking forward to both the 3rd season of The Mandalorian and the premier season of The Book of Boba Fett. Will The Mandalorian feature more Mandos? Will we continue to see Luke Skywalker and his padawan Grogu? As far as the Fett series, will we see him escape the Sarlacc? How about Bib Fortuna taking over Jabba’s organization only to have it taken over by Boba Fett? Will there be Hammerheads? Will O’Shea Jackson and Sung Kang be Tattooine street racers? I’ve also been seeing a lot of set photos from Andor and reading about the new Obi-Wan series.

I’m literally surrounded by Star Wars. I have a small Darth Vader statue, my famous Taco Bell Boba Fett Balancer and my new-ish “The Child” Black Series figure I picked up at Target. I received my Into A Larger World fanzine a few weeks back and I’m still looking through it.

Last year at work, I was able to set up a small display of Star Wars books. Usually May the 4th comes right before or after a major Star Wars event. I remember purchasing the Sith Trooper from Rise of Skywalker. I never get to Target or Walmart or whatever early enough, but I still have fun doing it. I would still love to see the cover to the RPG book that covers Doctor Aphra or The Mandalorian or even The Book of Boba Fett. I missed The Empire Strikes Back orchestration (I saw Han shoot first with the orchestration version of A New Hope) thanks to Covid, but I would love to take advantage of a rain check.

Let’s continue to have a good Star Wars day, week, year, whatever! May the Force Be With You.

Michael F. Davis became obsessed with Star Wars after repeated viewings of The Empire Strikes Back on VHS and a 1983 viewing of Return of the Jedi in movie theaters. He also saw all the Special Editions in the theater, bought all the Shadows of the Empire tie-ins, and even took a bus trip to Maine to see The Phantom Menace. He is currently employed as a Librarian in the US but has always has his sights on a galaxy far, far, away….
