On 19th July, to celebrate the 1969 Apollo 11 mission to the moon, there will be a screening of the magnificent Rogue One: A Star Wars Story at the aptly named Intergalactic Outdoor Cinema in Jubilee Square, Leicester.

On July 20, 1969, the world watched in awe as the Apollo 11 mission sent the first humans to the moon. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this remarkable feat there will be a space-themed programme of events in the city.

The One Giant Leap programme will get underway on Friday, July 19 with a chance for visitors to enjoy a blockbuster movie under the stars at the Intergalactic Outdoor Cinema in Jubilee Square.

According to organisers, the film – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12A) – is guaranteed to transport viewers to a galaxy far, far away. The story follows Jyn, the daughter of an Imperial scientist, as she joins the Rebel Alliance in a daring plot to steal the Death Star plans.

Admission is free, and visitors can bring a blanket or chair and enjoy the snacks and drinks on offer.

The screening is a part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of man’s first landing on the moon, with other events at the National Space Center and locations in Leicester taking place during July. Speaking of the Space Center, Fantha Tracks will be there over the weekend to cover Return of the Garrison on 29th and 30th June.
