Let’s kick off the new day with some good – VERY good – news. Clearly hale and hearty and ready to keep producing the music that’s fuelled our childhoods and adulthoods for decade after decade, 90 year old John Williams has thankfully walked back his pledge to retire from film music, meaning there’s even more good stuff waiting for us down the line. At last Thursdays celebration of the 50-year collaboration between Steven Spielberg and Williamns, the maestro made it very clear he has no intention of putting down or passing on the baton.

“Steven is a lot of things. He’s a director, he’s a producer, he’s a studio head, he’s a writer, he’s a philanthropist, he’s an educator. One thing he isn’t is a man you can say ‘no’ to.”

“So I’ve got 10 more years to go. I’ll stick around for a while!” “Also, you can’t ‘retire’ from music. It’s like breathing. It’s your life. It’s my life. A day without music is a mistake.”

So, again, breath easy and remember that along with his score for Spielberg’s current film The Fabelmans we also have a brand new Indiana Jones score just 5 months away, and more after that.
