As with every film, scenes are shot, scenes are trimmed with the ultimate considerations being running time, costs and pacing. Here, Rian Johnson explains why he opted to leave out this scene from The Last Jedi, a fascinating scene with humour, drama, conflict and illumination regarding the motivations of the Jedi.
Mostly pace, and something about it always felt a little repetitive, coming at a point in the movie where we want to hit the gas and start escalating towards the finale. I love the scene, it was a tough (but ultimately good) cut.
