With Star Wars ever-present in our hearts and minds, and new content coming at us a lightspeed, it’s always worth taking a moment to pause and remember just where this incredible journey started. Of course, it began in the mind of George Lucas, who put pen to paper and built a team capable of taking 70’s cinema audiences to a galaxy far, far away and the filming of that saga started filming in Tunisia on Monday 22nd March 1976. In a snap captured by Continuity Supervisor Ann Skinner, Mark Hamill waits to film as a gaggle of Jawa’s wait in the background.

Be sure to checkout the Filmumentaries Podcast, where host Jamie Benning deep dives into the history of Star Wars; If you value the archaeology of the saga, you really need to subscribe.

Fantha Tracks recently travelled to Finse in Norway to celebrate the filming of the Hoth scenes for The Empire Strikes Back way back in 1979, and here you can watch our panels from the weekend.
