Great news for people who appreciate amazing music and memorable scores as the news drops that Thomas Newman, best known for his scores for The Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo, 1917, Skyfall and Wall-E amongst many others has been invited to compose the score for Star Wars: Starfighter. Director Shawn Levy dropped the news at the 14 minute 43 second mark on the 13th episode of On Film…with Kevin McCarthy.
The film is directed by Levy and stars Ryan Gosling, Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Simon Bird, Aaron Pierre, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings & Amy Adams. The movie will take place five years after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. No plot details have been announced yet. Jonathan Tropper (Your Friends & Neighbors, Warrior) wrote the screenplay. Levy is also producing the Lucasfilm production with Kathleen Kennedy (Jurassic Park, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial). Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled to be released on May 28, 2027 by Walt Disney Pictures.
