An incredible undertaking, modelmakers have recreated the 1976 ILM model shop for the WonderFest modelmaking show, and in this wonderful video on Tested we see just how granular and diligent they were in remaking that legendary (and Oscar winning) model shop. The event was captured in a series of evocative photos by Chloe Dykstra, daughter of ILM co-founder and visual effects pioneer John Dykstra

50 years ago, the original Industrial Light and Magic team set up shop in Van Nuys, California to build the studio filming miniatures for Star Wars. At this year’s Wonderfest modelmaking show, studio scale Star Wars modelers gathered to pay tribute to those ILM legends with a recreation of that Van Nuys model shop, transporting Star Wars fans back to 1976.
