Born on this day in 1929, Ralph McQuarrie would go on to not only have a stellar career as a commercial artist and later a conceptual artist for an incredible number of projects including Battlestar: Galactica, CE3K, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T and so many more but he also changed lives with his incredible work with George Lucas on creating the aesthetic for the galaxy far, far away, a design masterclass that continues to this day.

While the saga forges on into the future, the work of McQuarrie will never be forgotten, so today we tip our collective hats in thanks. If George is the Maker and John Williams the Maestro, then Ralph McQuarrie is the Creator.
