He might be heading towards 80 faster than a rolling clay ball in an Peruvian jungle but Harrison Ford shows absolutely no signs of slowing down as filming is slated to begin – under the direction of Steven Spielberg – on the fourth sequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark in April of 2020, with a release date of 9th July 2021, an unbelievable 13 years since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and over 32 years since Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.

Discussing Film put out this tweet.

Worth mentioning is the year of release – 2021, 40 years since Raiders of the Lost Ark arrived on 30th July 1981. With the ever-developing advent of de-ageing technology which recently has seen Samuel L. Jackson look his mid-90’s self in Captain Marvel and shaved a couple of decades off Robert De Niro in The Irishman, what’s to say that Indy 5 will follow on from the events of Crystal Skull and not give us an adventure set somewhere between Raiders and the 2008 4th film? After all, Crystal Skull gave tantalising glimpses into Doctor Jones’ World War 2 adventures, and to de-age a 77 year old Ford into a 50 something, The Fugitive era Ford must surely be a tantalising prospect for Spielberg and company.

Just a thought, but don’t be surprised if we see familiar faces from the past (Star Trek: Picard trailer and the appearance of Data anyone?) re-appear on our screens as visual effects technology replaces the traditional methods of using make-up to de-age actors.
