Despite yesterdays news that Rogue Squadron from director Patty Jenkins will no longer be arriving on 22nd December 2023, Star Wars is holding firm with that date for the time being with another project arriving on that day. Tonight things got even more interesting as Paramount announced that they’ve decided to shift back their proposed 9th June 2023 launch date for their 14th Star Trek adventure to – you guessed it – 22nd December 2023, meaning that for the first time a Star Trek and Star Wars film could potentially arrive on the same day.

And the new Star Trek movie they’ve been in development on won’t launch on June 9, 2023 rather Dec. 22, 2023. The pic is in development with Matt Shakman attached to direct, as we first told you.

Star Trek moves to a Christmas period where Warner Bros. has their feature adaptation of the Broadway musical The Color Purple and Universal an untitled event musical film (Wicked perhaps?). Disney still has Patty Jenkins’ Star Wars Rogue Squadron on that date. Despite the director not moving forward with the film in 2022; the Mouse House hasn’t changed the pic’s release date yet.

While it’s highly likely that one or both will shift from that date, the thought of a Trek / Wars clash of the box office titans is certainly one to savour.
