Over the years, Star Wars books have come in all shapes and sizes. From the coffee table sized editions of Star Wars Archives and Blueprints which really require a carbonite block sized coffee table to rest them on (unless you have the arms of a fighting Gamorrean) right down to Mini Book versions of the Original Trilogy, which would be the perfect reading size for General Meebur Gascon.

Insight Editions latest range of mini book releases fit perfectly into that later category, but rather than release a text laden book that require a magnifying glass to comfortably read they have put out 4 pint sized books that rely solely on Star Wars imagery.

Each book has just over 300 pages crammed into a volume 6.35 x 2.54 x 8.89 cm in size.

Beginning with the very first Star Wars comics, published alongside the release of the original film in 1977, this comprehensive exploration includes this early era through to Marvel’s return to the Star Wars brand in 2015 and beyond. Featuring some of the most memorable covers in comics history drawn by some of the most famous artists in the industry, plus a dazzling array of variants, this mini book is the perfect collectible item for Star Wars fans and comic book enthusiasts alike.

Hold a galaxy of legendary designs in the palm of your hand with Star Wars: The Concept Art of Ralph McQuarrie Mini Book.

With other 100 concept images from the legendary concept artist Ralph McQuarrie the aptly named Concept Art of Ralph Mcquarrie contains some of the most beloved images reproduced in excruciating micro detail. Many of the images are double page spreads that cover the three original trilogy films, but the downside to this is that you really need to break the spine of the book to be able to see the entire image.

If you’re sat here thinking “what’s the point in having such a tiny offering?” you’re not alone.

When I think how some books, such as Star Wars Art: Posters make a good attempt at reproducing artwork at a reasonable size, the Insight Edition books make it almost impossible to see much more than the main forms of the image. Maybe its my eyesight over the resolution of the print, but unless you study with a magnifying glass you’re only likely to flick through this.

With the exception of the Concept Art of book, the paper stock used in the two Marvel volumes and poster book is a flat matte, whereas the McQuarrie book is glossy which adds a sense of quality to the image.

If it wasn’t for the fact that the books were released five days after Christmas these would make for ideal stocking stuffers, but unless you’re a completest or have a focus in either of the four book topics they are of little worth. There may be a potential use for collectors to use them as a portable reference if you’re buying Marvel Comics or a poster collection, but on a positive note they look cool on the bookshelf and don’t take up much space.
