The galaxy’s youngest heroes made their jump from screen to page with last year’s release of Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures–The Training Sessions. This 48-page hardcover collection offers a perfect entry point for younger fans to enter the Star Wars galaxy and follow the exploits of Kai, Lys, and Nubs as they navigate their Jedi training.
The creative team behind this volume includes writers Dave Scheidt and Daniel Jose Older, alongside artist Andy Duggan, colorist Dan Jackson, and letterers Comicraft. The book compiles the previously released Free Comic Book Day stories “Scavenger Hunt” and “Sky Parade Rescue,” while adding an all-new adventure titled “The Trees of Kashyyyk“. In it, guided by Master Yoda and Padawan Burryaga, the younglings face everything from Wookiee-led climbing challenges to monster-filled swamp rescues.
The collection is a quick, fun read that captures the vibrant visual style and lighthearted atmosphere of the Disney+ animated series flawlessly. The creators have done an excellent job translating the show’s charm onto the page. However, the format is a bit of a double-edged sword; while the almost pocket-sized hardcover is convenient, the small font size may prove challenging for some young readers, and at times the artwork feels cramped. The format feels reminiscent of the Dark Horse Clone Wars digests from two decades ago.
Despite its compact size, adult fans may want to check this title out and completionists certainly shouldn’t overlook it. The stories are firmly set within the High Republic era and the book features notable guest appearances from beloved characters such as Burryaga Agaburry, Qort, Farzala Tarabal, and Lula Talisola. Great for sharing with your younglings!
