What better way is there to watch a Star Wars film or episode than to sit down with a long, tall glass of something fizzy, bubbly or sparkly (or chow down on some tasty snacks) and lose youself in the galaxy far, far away? If that sounds like the perfect thing to you, then Star Wars: Galactic Drinks: From Mandalorian Mocktails to Cantina Cafs, Captivating Beverages Inspired by a Galaxy Far, Far Away! is definitely the book for you. Brought to you by the Force-fuelled duo of Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak, this book not only lays out 140 pages of wonderful drinks and snacks, but also drops you into some of the galaxy’s greatest watering holes. If the love the Force without needing to be on the sauce, this is the book for you.

Very smartly split into five sections (Cantina Coolers, inspired by tap cafes across the galaxy, Planetary Plunges, bringing milkshakes and slushees to evoke the cooler worlds across the galaxy, Comforting Cafs and Teas, laying down a selection of hot and cold coffee-based drinks, Smuggler’s Specials, a bold mix of drinks inspired by the underworld, and Co-Pilot Comestibles, with sweet and savory snacks designed to compoliment the drinks on offer) we get every kind of drink you can imagine, from the delicious sounding Sy Snootles Tea (add Boba pearls and 3 cups of water to a quarter cup of boiling water, some green tea, granulated sugar, fresh passion pulp, ice and a mint sprig) to the Ghorman Caf (chocolate syrup, hazlenut syrup, 2 shots of hot expresso, whole milk, candyfloss and a home made Ghorman spider to sit on top) and you’ll soon feel so at home in the galaxy you might just froget what you’re watching on the gogglebox.

As for the snacks, there are some really enticing nibbles in that section. The Portion Bread Board  is a cheese, blueberry, grape, cherry and olives delight, while the Mustafar Meatballs might just be the most mouth-watering meatballs this side of Ikea (Korean pear, soy sauce, garlic cloves – yes please!)

There have been plenty of food and drinks books over the years, and Jenn Fujikawa is well known for writing recipes over at StarWars.com, but here alongside Marc Sumerak they have concocted a book that not only looks lovely on the shelf alongside their other snackish releases, but the mixes within feel very ‘doable’, which isn’t always the case with such books. Browsing through the book – quite apart from the lovely design and attractive images – even I feel like I could have a shot at making a Sarjenn Frozen Core (softened valilla ice  cream, crushed cinnamon cereal, a cinnamon stick alongside a slush made of cola, cherry cola, cinnamon and vanilla extract), and that gives me confidence; often, these books are a nice addition to the library and a charming browse (littered as this book is with in-universe information) and all the best intentions of making a drink, but ultimately little more than that. Galactic Drinks feels like a book that as the summer approaches, I will very likely be picking up to have a go at some of the drinks inside.

Great work by the writing team and Insight Editions, who continue to release lovingly crafted and beautifully bound books that feel far more substantial than their price tag might show.
