Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Republic Under Siege #3

CRUEL FATE

Following the Battle of Endor and the destruction of the second Death Star, the galaxy is in a time of uncertainty. While the rebels forge a path toward peace, there are still those who would bring chaos and destruction. The war continues on in….

A surprise visit from Doctor Aphra on the planet Lehanis revealed that the ancient Jedi Compendium Luke and Rynn had been protecting was a fake, meaning Luke’s journey to the Outer Rim was another part in Adelhard’s scheme to keep Luke and the rest of the Republic’s forces separated. But not all Imperials agree with Adelhard’s tactics. On the planet Souwecer, the remaining leaders of the Empire met to discuss how to stop Adelhard and preserve former Emperor Palpatine’s original wishes for their regime. As the Imperial forces grow, the Republic’s rebel forces must find their way back to each other–especially now that an assassin threatens the galaxy, and their sights are set on high-ranking officials within the New Republic….

The betrayal is building as the opportunist elements of Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard’s Imperial remnant chaos machine churn forward.

Starting on Kijimi with Zeva Blliss’ Spice Runners, the deep fissures are apparent with the reveal of a character from Solo: A Star Wars Story, who was played by Star Wars film royalty (no spoilers here). The plot and process of bounty hunter engagement comes out in the conversation. It also brings to light another double agent who is introducing another bounty hunter—popular in the comic book galaxy of Star Wars, with a different job, to the party.

The Trandoshan bounty hunter introduced in the previous issue makes his move on Chandrila against Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, now showing with who will become Ben Solo, and Mon Mothma. They survive but not without injuries and a serious message sent. The message is enforced during a holo conversation Mon has later in the issue, but first…

…Imperials against Adelhard are also making their move, activating a planted insider. The pages point to Reyna Oskure and the Acolytes of the Beyond as the next traitor, but it might just be a ruse in the storytelling. Oskure also looks to have fallen for Adelhard and his power grab—sealed with yet another kiss.

The culmination of issue #3 (7 of 12 overall) The Battle of Jakku: Republic Under Siege escorts in additional assassinations on the Old Republic power seat of Krassinique. The moves are meant to rock the foundations of the nascent New Republic as another potential Senator is found dead by Calder Behrens, the spymaster for Mon and Leia. He is reporting the tragic news to Mon when he too is struck down by bounty hunter Lan-Drus, who apparently is just getting started. Skywalker is the primary target of the hired thugs but what other collateral damage awaits?
