Star Wars: Inquisitors #3

“NOWHERE TO RUN”

DARTH VADER has tasked the GRAND INQUISITOR with tracking down the elusive Jedi hero TENSU RUN.

After the FIFTH BROTHER’s attempted attack on Tensu Run resulted in the loss of his arm, it is now the SEVENTH and NINTH SISTERS’ chance to hunt down the Jedi….

The game’s afoot, and we return to Inquisitors in a starcruiser above the world of Glee Anselm, not during a valachord recital but instead a game of sabacc as the players discuss the whereabouts of the illusive Tensu Run. The professional gambler Eorgus appears to know where Tensu is, but plays it cool….until his winning hand of cards is run through by a knife, and the red blades of the Seventh and Ninth Sisters ignite to loosen his forked reptillian tongue. He tells them how he took Tensu to an abandoned temple, sealing him inside as per his request, the last time he saw him. The sisters believe Eorgus, but end him anyway.

We step to somewhere on the Outer Rim and Tensu as he speaks with fellow Jedi Pan Delesec inside a dark temple. They plan to bring padawans, learn the old ways, and rebuild in the shadows before returning the Jedi to their former glory as we cut to the Devastator, Darth Vader’s flagship as he receives the Seventh and Ninth Sisters. They tell the Dark Lord of their recent actions, and how they will lure Tensu Run out of hiding, but Vader tells them to be mindful of their arrogance and overconfidence, warning them that he expects results.

Back with Tensu and Delesec as they enter the nearby township to buy supplies, when suddenly they spot what appear to be probe droids, spouting gouts of noxious gas into the marketplace. The townspeople begin to fight, and using their training they begin to intercede to break up the scuffles, as we see the Seventh and Ninth Sisters watching from the shadows. Facing off, the four ignite their red and blue blades and engage in a furious fight that sees Delesec and Run get the upper hand on the Sisters and we end with Tensu suggesting to the Seventh Sister that perhaps it’s time they met her master.

Not a huge amount happens in the third issue of Inquisitors, but what does happen is certainly of interest. We see Darth Vader aboard his flagship the Devastator, learn of the Jedi plans to rebuild in the shadows much like the Sith did for a millennia and even fly high over Glee Anselm, and while the frustrating habit of giving little detail to geographical locations continues (‘somewhere on the Outer Rim’ may as well say somewhere in the galaxy’) the artwork by Ramon Rosanas and Guru-eFX is more than enough to make up for the brevity of plot, and the thought of seeing Tensu Run and Darth Vader clash in the final issue is definitely enough to whet the appetite. A solid, if unspectacular issue that brings us closer to the end game of a mini-series that has more than proven worthy of the Star Wars title.
