Adventures in La La Land with a British Fantha

I’ve just returned from a galaxy far, far away – well LA, California to be precise. It might as well have been another galaxy as I was easily able to find plenty of Star Wars goodness in the hills of La La Land – including a cantina.

Prompted by fellow Fantha Brian Cameron, I made sure that I checked out the Denny’s restaurant situated on Vermont Avenue, Korea Town. There is a great promotion tied in with Solo – A Star Wars Story at the moment, featuring themed menus, cups and trading cards.

Later that day I was on Hollywood Boulevard to see the sparkly stars on the sidewalk and cemented footprints and handprints outside Mann’s Chinese Theatre, a very special location indeed for Star Wars fans. It was a whirlwind visit, but I do believe I was the first Fantha to see Mr Hamill’s star on the sidewalk.

The following day was spent at Venice Beach before heading in the evening back to Hollywood Boulevard to the most fantastic bar – Scum & Villainy Cantina.

The Star Wars themed hangout is a love letter to Mos Eisley’s Cantina. It is a must for all Star Wars fans.

I chatted with Scum & Villainy proprietor J C Reifenberg and he told me all about the forthcoming plans for Star Wars Day – May 4th.

“We’ve got a Star Wars trivia quiz from 6-8pm with some really cool prizes.

“There will also be special door prizes throughout the night plus a great link-up with a cider company that has a connection to Mos Eisley Cantina.”

The owner of the California Cider Company is married to one of the actresses who portrayed the Tonnika sisters in the cantina scene and she will be signing autographs on the night.

Ace Space Bloody Orange Cider features the character on the bottle neck.
