In an ever more bizarre race to name newborns unusual names both Star Wars and Game of Thrones feature heavily in the list for new baby names of last year.  Although common English names like Luke, Owen and Finn are always popular there are some surprises.  The list heavily focuses on Tyrions, Daenerys and Aryas however there is a small bit of Star Wars reference included.

Star Wars also appears to have had an impact, with 149 girls called Leia, and 21 named Rey. 70 boys were called Kylo – an interesting choice, given the character played by Adam Driver is a murdering psychopath who ends up killing his own father.

Further investigation into this highlights that names ending with ‘O’ are increasingly becoming more popular due to the trendy sound of the vowel.  Other names to make the list include Anakin, Mace, Obi, Poe and Jedi.
