So, you may be wondering why we’re posting the news that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle 2 is opening on 13th December 2019, but after the oh-so-close to a billion dollar box office take of $956 million last year and the proximity to Episode IX it’s worthy of mention.

Clearly the days of films staying far away from saga episodes have gone, as Jumanji is going all in on the 13th December while the big screen adaptation of Wicked and the remake of Death on the Nile open on 20th December, the same day as Episode IX with Masters of the Universe opening midweek on 18th December.

Wicked and Death on the Nile could be considered logical counterprogramming, but Jumanji and Masters of the Universe are well within Episode IX’s wheelhouse so it will be interesting to see how well these blockbusters do in such close proximity to each other.
