As the days trickle down to the release of The Rise of Skywalker – currently 236 days and counting – rumours and information will inevitably continue to bubble to the surface. One such unconfirmed rumour was the presence in the film of Matt Smith, with many believing he could be playing one of the mysterious Knights of Ren.
Unconfirmed, until now.
Back in August 2018, Variety reported that Smith was joining Episode IX in a major role.
Sources tell Variety that “The Crown” star Matt Smith is joining “Star Wars: Episode IX,” which is currently in production in the U.K. It’s unknown at this time whether the “Doctor Who” alum will be on the side of the rebels or the evil empire.
However, just last month while speaking to Emily Zemler for LA Times, the Crown actor dismissed these rumours when asked if he was in the film:
“As far as I can tell, I’m definitely not,” he said.
Dołączają do nich Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Matt Smith i Dominic Monaghan, którzy zagrają obok weteranów sagi Gwiezdnych wojen, takich jak Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels i Billy Dee Williams, który ponownie stanie się Lando Calrissianem.
As ever, until it is officially confirmed by Lucasfilm then it remains a rumour – and perhaps three over-eager copywriters have got ahead of themselves and placed Smith where he shouldn’t have been placed – but either way, these are official Disney websites, so the forecast for the Doctor being on call is good.
UPDATE: The Disney UK website also lists Smith as being a part of the cast, further firming up the story.
Joining the cast of Episode IX are Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Matt Smith, and Dominic Monaghan, who will be joined by veteran Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams, who will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian.
