Ram Bergman: “It’s all new characters. Everything is new”

As the galaxy expands and new stories and series continue to develop it should be no surprise that we’re about to embark on new stories with no obviously familiar characters. Indeed, for the saga to develop and flourish, striking out with fresh new characters unencumbered by the past – for example actors who’ve previously inhabited the role – is most likely the safest option. After all, the galaxy and its familiar cornerstones – hyperspace, the Force, the battle between good and evil – are the pillars of the saga, not  just specific, time-locked characters.

Speaking with From The Grapevine, Bergman touched on the new, Rian Johnson led trilogy.

You’re working on three new “Star Wars” movies. What can you reveal about them?

It’s a completely new trilogy that writer-director Rian Johnson, my partner, is going to create. It’s all new characters. Everything is new.

What’s the plan for releasing the first one?

I can’t tell you because we don’t know yet. Maybe in two years; it’s just in the early stages.
