Making Star Wars are claiming that 80’s icon Michael Biehn – James Cameron favourite of The Terminator, Aliens and the forthcoming Avatar sequels – has been cast in season 2 of The Mandalorian, joining fellow 80’s stars Carl Weathers and Nick Nolte in the show.

The excellent Michael Biehn is coming to the second season of Star Wars: The Mandalorian. If you recall back to my initial coverage for The Mandalorian, we locked down the codename used by the production which was “Huckleberry” which was a reference to Tombstone (1993). Biehn played Johnny Ringo in Tombstone. Even more iconic was his portrayal of John Connor’s father in Terminator (1984). As a kid in the eighties, I was also a big fan of his role in Aliens (1986) as Corporal Hicks.

Having the scoop on Pedro Pascal being cast in The Mandalorian was pretty rad for modern reasons like Game of Thrones and Narcos. However, my favorite scoop ever was Nick Nolte is playing an Ugnaught. But nearly equally rad was Carl Weathers’ inclusion to the cast because of the nostalgia I feel for the actor as such a huge part of my childhood. I really dig that The Mandalorian is adding Michael Biehn for the same reason.

It’s an excellent point, that while the show forges on with new technology and storylines in the post-Return of the Jedi years, some of the older members of the cast are very much rooted in that mid 80’s era. It will be fascinating to see if this casting comes off, coming on the heels of Rosario Dawson allegedly joining the cast as Ahsoka Tano and Bill Burr returning as Mayfield.
