As it has been for over 35 years, the summer edition of Empire Magazine is packed to the staples (or glued spine to be more precise) with fascinating articles, and foremost is their conversation with director Gareth Edwards who once again takes on a classic franchise after kicking off the Monsterverse in 2914 with Godzilla and stealing the Death Star plans in 2016 in Rogue One. This time he takes us into classic Spielberg territory with Jurassic World Rebirth, a project that saw the legendary director contact Edwards personally to bring him onto the show.

For Edwards, getting to work alongside Spielberg – who once again acts as producer on Rebirth, stewarding the overall Jurassic saga – meant he was rubbing shoulders with one of the all-time greats for the second time in his career. “The only thing I can compare it to is having to show George Lucas around the set of a Star Wars film,” he says. “I definitely believe I am in the Matrix and I chose ‘film director’ as my simulation, because this shouldn’t really happen!” He’s living the dream; hopefully, Rebirth gives us all nightmares like it’s 1993.
