He might be a few years beyond squeezing a candle for every year of his extraordinary life onto his birthday cake, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all celebrate 14th May, one of the most meaningful days in the Star Wars calendar – the birthday 82 years ago of George Walton Lucas.
Born in Modesto, California on 14th May 1944, Lucas not only changed the direction of cinema in ways many are not aware of, but he also gave us two cinematic juggernauts in Star Wars and Indiana Jones, worlds that sprung from him during an incredible period of early 70’s creativity (and while working on THX-1138 and American Grafitti). Decades later we’re still living the concepts and ideas Lucas set down decades ago.
He may claim to have retired, but the imminent opening of the Lucas Museum tells us he only retired from making films, and as anyone who has followed or read about his life and career, Lucas was always about much more than just that. An icon on the pop culture landscape, he continues to innovate and inspire, and from the team at Fantha Tracks – many happy returns George!
Many happy returns George!
