The galaxy made its way to the Presidio in San Francisco on the Friday fans gathered for the screening of Maul: Shadow Lord at Lucasfilm headquarters.

For some, the event became more than just a screening. It also turned into a first visit to one of the newest points of pilgrimage for fans: the Skywalker Ranch General Store.

Visitors came from all over, with some traveling from as far as Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, Missouri, and beyond. For many of them, stepping inside the store was part curiosity, part celebration, and part bucket list moment.

For Heath of Portland, Oregon, the appeal went beyond the merchandise. “I like it. I like the grounds,” he said, liking that visitors can wander the area, check out the gardens, and then stop by the store to “buy their fandom.”

The recently opened store offers a little bit of everything. There are wines from Skywalker Vineyards, Skywalker Ranch branded apparel, drinkware, collectibles, and a number of tasteful finds that give the space its own identity.

It is part retail stop, part destination, and very much an extension of the larger Lucasfilm mystique.

Mitch and Bailey (@mitch.and.bailey) a father and daughter duo from Salt Lake City, Utah, were clearly having fun taking it all in. Bailey was especially impressed by the feel of the shop itself. “It’s all the nicest Star Wars stuff,” she said. “You see a bunch of merch everywhere, but it’s the nice quality stuff. It’s amazing.” Mitch, meanwhile, made a beeline for the Vader items, picking up a Darth Vader bouncy ball and a shirt to go with other Skywalker Ranch finds.

Chris (@rebelscum95) and Clarisa (@redleader13), visiting from San Diego, CA,  said they first heard about the store about a month ago. “I saw it online, and it looked awesome, so we had to check it out,” Chris said. For Clarisa, the store’s appeal was not just in the merchandise, but in the overall feel of the space. “I love the store. It’s very chic,” she said, also liking how it is “intertwined with the vineyard,” making the stop feel like “a two in one trip.”

Throughout the day, the energy inside the store never really let up. The friendly store attendants shared that foot traffic had noticeably picked up, especially with fans in town for the screening. There was a steady buzz in the air, but more than that, there was a sense of shared excitement.

The sense of community was hard to miss.

Just two months after opening, the Skywalker Ranch General Store already feels like more than a shop. It is quickly becoming a tourist destination for fans of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and all things Lucasfilm. On a day like this, with visitors pouring in ahead of a special Lucasfilm event, the excitement around it felt unmistakable.

For first timers, it was not just about what they bought. It was about finally being there.
