Official summary: The Mandalorian and Grogu explore the ruins of a destroyed planet.
Trivia
Fireworks are going off in Mos Eisley, it is time to celebrate the holiday called Boonta again. We all know that the Boonta Eve was mentioned in The Phantom Menace and that it was celebrated with a big podracing event. The Boonta is a Hutt holiday celebrating the rise of Boonta Hestilic Shad’ruu to godhood.
The two speeders racing in the street look like V-35s.
The Rodian customer that Peli Motto is trying to swindle is Dawn Dininger’s second Star Wars role. She appeared before as another Rodian, the unnamed Rodian prisoner that was Boba Fett’s fellow captive in the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett.
It looks like the speeder that the Jawas have stripped is a new model, but the engine still resembles that of Luke’s A New Hope landspeeder.
The Boonta celebrating Jawas wear colored necklaces reminiscent of those given out in New Orleans during Mardi Grass.
While the nuzzle shrew that Peli mentions is new, the Lurmen are not. This species was originally designed for Episode 3, but did not appear in the movie. They were first seen in The Clone Wars episode Jedi Crash.
Grogu’s leaping was taught by Luke in The Book Of Boba Fett, and was something that Yoda did a lot as part of his fighting style in Attack Of The Clones.
Peli keeps referencing the events as seen in The Book Of Boba Fett with thinking that the Hutts are back (the Twins) and taking out Boba Fett, who is in control now.
Another reference that she makes is to chance cubes, the dices used by Watto in The Phantom Menace.
Pelli claims R5-D4 served the Rebellion. While this sounds like a lie of her to sell the astromech to Din Djarin, it is not. The short story called The Red One, as published in From A Certain Point Of View, also mentions the droid remembering a faint memory of being involved in a rebellion before his memory wipe and time in the sandcrawler.
Arriving in the Mandalore System, Din Djarin points to the moon of Mandalore, Concordia, and mentions he grew up there. This is not the flashback world seen during season 1, as that world was named Aq Vetina in the reference guide The Star Wars Book.
Concordia was seen in The Clone Wars and was where the Death Watch operated from.
Djarin says that a Mandalorian has to understand maps. Ironically, all the maps of the Mandalore system or sector, which were officially released hardly show any details. At least this episode shows a more exact placement of Kevala relative to Mandalore and its moon Concordia.
The underground city is Sundari, which was shown in its prime in The Clone Wars.
The Alamites are a new species, but they fit well with such creatures like the morlocks from H.G. Well’s The Time Machine or even the Moloids from Marvel comics.
Another new creature is a spiny alligator like creature with glowing green eyes.
Bo-Katan says she knew quite a few Jedi. She is of course referring to Obi-Wan, Anakin and Ahsoka whom all visited Sundari in The Clone Wars.
When fighting the big droid Bo-Katan thrusts the Darksaber down in the same style Obi-Wan did on the Acklay in Attack Of The Clones.
Bo-Katan’s rule of Mandalore was indeed brief and ended by the Empire’s decimation of Mandalore.
Bo-Katan mentions pog soup, not porg soup people… This is a traditional soup, newly created for this episode. Pogs are unknown as well to what kind of ingredient this would be.
While he is not identified by name, Bo-Katan’s father is called Adonai Kryze. He received this name from Tim Veekhoven in Star Wars: Build The Millennium Falcon #32. Fantha Tracks’ own Mark Newbold also wrote for the Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon.
Mandalore the great was first mentioned in Chapter 8: Redemption and can easily be confused for Mandalore The Ultimate, who in the Legends continuity was the leader of the Mandalorians during the Mandalorian Wars.
