Back on Tuesday 27th December 1977, Star Wars returned to the UK. Landing in London first seven months after it launched in the US and around the world, the film – shot at UK studios Elstree and Shepperton – eventually rolled out to the rest of the UK, creating queues the likes of which had never been seen before, snaking around the numerous two-screen cinemas that were scattered across the country in the days before the rise of multiplexes, and igniting a zeitgeist moment that has endured for almost half a century.

Watch the legendary Barry Norman‘s review of the film below, and raise a glass to the one film that changed all our lives.
