For the second year in a row, Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) was transformed into an “intergalactic spaceport,” proving that Poland’s largest travel hub became a key destination for fans of the Star Wars saga. Coinciding with the global “May the 4th” celebrations, the event solidified a tradition that blended pop culture with the world of aviation.
Following the acclaim of the inaugural edition, this year’s festivities were even more ambitious. The terminal featured Star Wars themed photo corners, LEGO statues, life-sized models of iconic droids and Han Solo frozen in carbonite. Travelers also encountered an imposing AT-ST walker and a full-scale X-Wing starfighter stationed on the apron, juxtaposed against the modern fleet of LOT Polish Airlines. Local cosplayers and Polish Star Wars publishers also took part. To complete the immersive experience, live orchestras performed John Williams’ legendary scores, which echoed through the departure halls.
The scale of the event reflected the growing interest of Polish companies and international partners in creative cross-marketing. Adam Sanocki, PPL Board Member for Strategy and Marketing, highlighted the airport’s commitment to passenger experience:
“Chopin Airport has always focused on unique traveler experiences. We are immensely pleased that Star Wars Day returned to our port. The success of the first edition proved that passengers value unconventional initiatives. It was a great satisfaction to provide authentic joy to travelers for the second time.”
The event’s origins and its massive reach were further detailed by Piotr Rudzki, Acting Director of the Communications Office and the visionary behind the project. “Last year, we organized this event with Disney for the first time, and the success exceeded our wildest expectations. Including social media and passengers, we reached over 10 million people,” Rudzki explained.
He noted that the campaign’s impact was so significant that it caught the attention of Lucasfilm. “Representatives of European airports asked us how we managed to persuade Disney to cooperate. This year, new partners joined, including Lucasfilm, which usually does not engage in such actions. We are already thinking about how to surprise passengers next year.”
By integrating themed flight boards—listing destinations like Tatooine, Hoth, and Endor—with high-fidelity props, Warsaw Chopin Airport yet again proved to be a popular location for Polish fans looking for ways to make their Star Wars Day an even more memorable experience.
