Could The Mandalorian and Grogu be looking at a VFX Oscar nomination?

It’s worth noting that just as every Toy Story film has won Best Original Song at the Academy Awards, so every single live action Star Wars film has been nominated for Best Visual Effects, and just as The Maestro John Williams could very well be sizing up his 55th Oscar nomination for Disclosure Day (to the eternal shame of the Academy winning just five, with three of them coming in the 70’s (Fiddler on the Roof, Jaws and Star Wars), one in the 80’s (E.T) and his latest 32 years ago for Schindler’s List in 1994) so ILM continue their long wait, with 50 nominations (starting at the 1978 Oscars for Star Wars) and sixteen wins, the most recent coming in 2006 for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.

Distributor: Walt Disney Pictures
Artisans: Jeff Capogreco, Trent Claus, Mark Dubeau, Kabir Verma (visual effects supervisors)

A “Star Wars” movie has never missed a best visual effects nomination. Never. Even with a softer box office, it would be foolish to count this one out, at least this early in the game.

Other considerations: “Disclosure Day” and “The Sheep Detectives”
