As we look ahead to a very bright future for Star Wars, it’s worth remembering that 45 years ago in the summer of ’77, audiences in the States were queuing around the block to get into their local cinema to see this dazzling example of ‘old fashioned escapist entertainment pure and simple, with no moral, no message‘.

Fascinating to see how the original was viewed by critics of the time, and tough to get across just how huge that film truly was, how ground-breaking and original a film the audiences of ’77 were being treated to.
