He may have become known worldwide for starring as the dark lord of the sith Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy but Dave Prowse was most proud of his work as the Green Cross Code Man. Travelling to numerous schools across the UK, his gentle but firm instruction taught kids of the 70’s and 80’s all about road safety, some thing he was rightly proud of and which earned him his MBE.

Watch Dave back in 1977 on Scene around Six as he goes through those important lessons with a young class of 70’s kids in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Dave Prowse has died aged 85. In 1977, he delighted school kids in Belfast, as the Green Cross Code Man.
