Last night as part of the BFI London Film Festival on the Southbank, the original 1977 dye transfer IB Technicolor British release print of Star Wars – without the Episode IV A New Hope title added – was screened twice, and it was glorious. A trip through time, to 27th December 1977 when the movie finally arrived on UK shores and there was nothing other than that first, world-changing film, gave fans the chance to relive their childhood (or see it in its original form for the very first time), and as if that wasn’t fantastic enough, Kathleen Kennedy was on hand to introduce the film and assure the crowd in attendance that yes, Lucasfilm were fully behind this very special screening.

Myself and Mark Mulcaster saw the 5.30pm screening, while Brian Cameron and Matt Booker caught the 8.30pm screening, and all four of us feel incredibly privileged to have been in the room. In addition to more coverage of the night coming to the site you’ll hear us talk about this amazing experience on future episodes of Making Tracks and Good Morning Tatooine.
