We may now be in a new era of Star Wars as we race towards the 50th anniversary as The Mandalorian and Grogu hits cinemas worldwide, bringing back the latest cinematic period of the saga, but don’t forget that Star Wars is far more than singularly a film, TV show, comic, book or whatever other medium you can think of, and unlike 99% of other franchises it has physical homes in multiple places. So with that in mind, check out some of the latest happenings from Disney Parks, starting with a visit to Disney Plus to watch Disney+ Insider: The Mandalorian and Grogu — A New Mission Launches at Disneyland Resort, and then enjoy Jon Favreau, Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver and Dave Filoni watching the new Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland Park nighttime projection show The Curious Child.
The Force is strong on Batuu! Join us for a front-row look at the premiere performance of “The Curious Child,” a brand-new nighttime projection show that just debuted at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland Park.
This limited-time entertainment offering transforms the iconic rocky spires of Black Spire Outpost near the Millennium Falcon into a massive storytelling canvas. Watch as Grogu (colloquially known to fans as Baby Yoda) tests his growing powers to recall fond memories of his epic galactic adventures alongside Din Djarin. The spectacular sequence features stunning projection effects and imagery pulled straight from the hit Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
Next, the fantastic four tried the new Mando additions to Smugglers Run – available to ride from today – at Galaxy’s Edge east and west.
While we’re in a Smugglers Run mood, the official site took a look at the new mission, one that brings Hondo, Grogu and Mando together.
A new mission is coming to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. Hondo Ohnaka is recruiting flight crews for an all-new quest aboard the Millennium Falcon, inviting guests to join Din Djarin and Grogu as they track down ex-Imperial officers (and hopefully bring home some valuable cargo for Hondo).
“We were very lucky to get to work closely with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni,” explains Asa Kalama, Vice President, Executive for Creative and Interactive Experiences at Walt Disney Imagineering. “Early on, we had lots of conversations with them around how we might want to shape the overall story. Through that close collaboration, I think we arrived at something that feels wholly fresh and like an entirely new adventure.”
io9 had the chance to ride the new experience, and fed back some interesting info about the new adventure.
After blasting from Batuu to Tatooine, you follow Mando’s Razor Crest (the new one, which sets this after the events of the movie) with a few practice maneuvers before coming upon the three ships in question. You try to be stealthy, but Grogu screws it up, and you are forced to track only one of the bounties. The engineer then has five seconds (literally—there’s a countdown) to choose: Cloud City, Endor, or Coruscant. And then off you go. (Oh, and in case you’re wondering, if there’s only one engineer, that one chooses. If there are two engineers, it’s random which one chooses. And if you fly with no engineers, the system will randomly pick.)
Laughing Place also had great info about a new opportunity for visiting fans to Galaxy’s Edge.
