$19.99, either a Meta Quest 3 or 3S headset and some room to throw yourself around is all you need to dive deep into the latest ILM Immersive release, Star Wars: Beyond Victory, a game that hurls us at great velocity into the world of podracing, bringing back some very familiar voices from The Phantom Menace to boot.
Industrial Light & Magic and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset is available now exclusively for Meta Quest 3 & 3S headsets for $19.99.
ILM’s latest entry in immersive Star Wars storytelling, Beyond Victory blends adventure, high-speed podracing, and open-ended play in a way only possible through mixed reality. Players can now step into the Star Wars galaxy and experience the action as it unfolds seamlessly within their own surroundings.
“Our goal was to create something that brings generations of Star Wars fans together in a completely new way,” said Alyssa Finley, Executive Producer of Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset. “Whether you’re a lifelong fan or discovering the galaxy for the first time, Beyond Victory offers something for everyone and we’re so excited for fans to finally get their hands on it.”
Set during the Reign of the Empire, Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset puts players in the boots of Volo Bolus, an eager up-and-comer mentored by podracing legend Sebulba. Through a mix of immersive VR, dynamic mixed reality, and interactive storytelling, players will experience a fresh Star Wars tale that bridges thrilling action and heartfelt narrative.
Beyond Victory features a standout cast including Fin Argus (Queer as Folk), Greg Proops (Whose Line is it Anyway?), Lilimar Hernandez (Inside Out 2), Lewis MacLeod (The Phantom Menace) and Bobby Moynihan (SNL), bringing humor, intensity, and heart to this one-of-a-kind experience.
At the core of Beyond Victory are three distinct gameplay modes designed to offer a wide range of play styles:
Adventure Mode delivers the primary narrative journey placing players in the role of Volo Bolus, an ambitious pilot mentored by none other than podracing legend Sebulba. Through a mix of fully immersive VR and mixed-reality, players will experience an epic Star Wars story from a bold new perspective.
Arcade Mode transforms the player’s physical space into a holotable-style racing arena where high-speed podraces are controlled from a top-down view. Each track features multiple paths to the finish line providing fast, replayable fun for fans of classic arcade gameplay.
Playset Mode invites players to unleash their creativity in a dynamic sandbox from a galaxy far, far away. Using unlockable digital action figures, including vehicles and iconic characters, fans can populate their physical environment and stage their own Star Wars stories.
ILM.com catch up with Beyond Victory director Jose Perez III, who gives us an insight into the game.
Can you tell us about why you decided to make the podracing in this experience something that’s top-down on a holotable in third-person vs. a first-person POV?
It’s not truly ‘top-down’ as much as it is a 3D diorama when you’re standing next to it. It was definitely a conscious choice to make it third-person to fit into what we were trying to do here, which is pushing the boundaries of mixed reality. Early on, we knew we wanted to lean into the “Toy” vibe of the Playset and do something unique with the technology. This approach felt like the natural way to achieve that. I’m a big fan of 1980s retro games, so for me, this was about taking those classic arcade concepts and adding a whole new dimension.
We’re excited and so are the cast of the game, including Bobby Moynihan who voices Grakkus the Hutt.
