With the subtitle of “Final Fury,” the middle act of “Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku” ups the ante and shifts the living pieces of the dejarik board heading into the climax issues of the story bridging “Return of the Jedi” to “The Force Awakens.”

The most important part of this issue is Reyna Oskura’s dismissal of the previously feared Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard. She calls out Adelhard as a “false usurper, eluded and misinformed,” while continuing that “the Empire’s plans lead to only one place—and they don’t include you.” With the help of the Trandoshan bounty hunter, Kranor, she moves Adelhard off the board. But is it permanent, even if she tells the New Republic he is dead and she is now in charge? Oskura may have a trick up her sleeve, as she continues to play numerous hands at once.

The small band of New Republic ships she shares this information with is led by Luke Skywalker, Lando Calrissian, Rynn Zenat, Preeti, and bounty hunter Beilert Valance, who reluctantly accepts the news and plan on getting back to support the New Republic’s initiatives in preparation for the upcoming Battle of Jakku.

On Chandrila, where the issue begins, Mon Mothma, Admiral Gial Ackbar, and Leia Organa are acting on intelligence provided by the recently deceased Calder Behrens, and the mysterious “Operator.” Strategic plans are being formalized and activated to counter the remaining Imperial forces combined to attempt a final death blow to the New Republic at Jakku.
